Ysgol Glan Clwyd was the first Welsh-medium secondary school in Wales – and of course we continue to be very proud of that legacy.
Welsh is at the centre of all our operations and we pride ourselves on developing new generations of children and young people in Denbighshire who are confident and fluent in both languages. At Ysgol Glan Clwyd we are fully and actively committed to working towards the Welsh Government’s ‘Cymraeg 2050’ Welsh language target of securing one million Welsh speakers.
Here with us, pupils will experience a Welsh society with the Welsh language at the heart of all school activities – educationally, extracurricularly and socially.
Developing our pupils’ Welsh identity and their appreciation of everything Welsh is a key priority. We present the culture, the tradition and the history of our country. We believe with confidence that the pupils will have pride in their Welsh heritage and have a passion as individuals for playing a key role in developing the future of a modern Wales.
When joining the family of Ysgol Glan Clwyd one makes the exciting choice to embrace, respect and use the Welsh language. This decision involves commitment, perseverance and enthusiasm, in order to develop into a progressive bilingual individual with so much more to offer to 21st century society. Most of all, of course, our aim is to nurture children and young people with pride in their Welsh and Welshness.
