Headteacher’s Word of Welcome

It is with great pleasure that I introduce our website, intended to give you a glimpse into our Ysgol Glan Clwyd family.

Ysgol Glan Clwyd is the oldest secondary Welsh medium school in Wales and was established as a result of the forward thinking and innovative minds of local people in 1956. Our forefathers’ vision and their enthusiasm for the language and its future is equally important and relevant to us today at Ysgol Glan Clwyd as it was all those years ago.

The Welsh language is a treasure to be cherished and shared, and this underpins our true purpose as a school. We ensure that our pupils thrive through the medium of Welsh and embrace the language completely as part of their identity.

The school is well-settled in its new building which has excellent resources and meets the educational demands of the 21st Century. The main success of our school it is that over a thousand pupils are being educated annually through the medium of Welsh, and each will be an asset to the future of Wales and beyond.

Our aim is to nurture progressive Welsh individuals in an atmosphere where respect and kindness are central to our daily interactions with each other. Our consistent unity as a family encourages our pupils to achieve their potential and to support each other. Despite the large size of our school, knowing each and every one of our pupils is key and our hardworking and caring staff ensure that the best support is available at all times.

At Ysgol Glan Clwyd, we promote the responsibility that derives from being a part of a special family such as this one, and we dedicate ourselves to nurturing proud, ambitious, creative and enterprising members of society who value their health and wellbeing. We are pleased to be able to move on from a time that has, as a result of Covid, been very challenging for society and all educational institutions, and we look forward to the future with confidence.

Before I conclude – I would like to emphasise how important you are to us as parents and how crucial your support is. When that collaboration between us as a school and you as parents is at its best – that’s when the magic happens.

Together, we can succeed in making the next few years prosperous, happy and successful for all.
