Headteacher’s Word of Welcome

It is my privilege to introduce you to the Ysgol Glan Clwyd website which will enable you to take a look at the richness of our community.

Ysgol Glan Clwyd is a Welsh-medium comprehensive school for 11-18 year olds with a long tradition of providing quality bilingual experiences and education for all our learners.

Ysgol Glan Clwyd was the first Welsh-medium school in Wales, and was established in 1956 to respond to the demand for Welsh-medium education in Denbighshire. Since those exciting, innovative early days the school has continued to play a leading role in promoting high quality Welsh-medium education, and in extending that provision and its appeal.

Although we as a school now have over a thousand learners, the close and supportive sense of family remains at the heart of our way of working at Ysgol Glan Clwyd. We take pride in this sense of family, and work hard on achieving an in-depth knowledge and understanding of our children and young people on a personal level that enables us to support them personally and emotionally. This guarantees that all learners are supported fully to fulfil their potential.

As we move forward as a school this emphasis on respect and kindness runs through all our actions.

We also value our close and positive relationships with our parents and guardians which are of course central to our effective support for all learners. In such an environment we believe that our learners will thrive and develop into informed, ambitious, ethical young learners – healthy of body and mind.

Ysgol Glan Clwyd is now also very fortunate in the excellent resources and infrastructure at the school. The new and modern buildings and resources provide a positive and appropriate environment for education to flourish in the twenty-first century.

At a time of change and new challenges,  we look forward confidently to continuing to develop and innovate, ensuring that the progress and well-being of every member of our family is at the heart of that development. We will do all this of course with respect and kindness.

Yours sincerely
