Severe Weather

There are occasions when it becomes necessary to send pupils home due to inclement weather conditions. When this happens we will send you a text and email through School Gateway, please make sure you keep your details up to date.

Pupils who travel to school by bus / taxi are sent home early when the transport department informs the school that to ensure safety, buses must be sent out early.

When this occurs, pupils who travel on the buses are called to the Hafan.  Before they are allowed to depart, pupils are asked to inform staff if there are any difficulties i.e. no one at home.

It would be appreciated if you could discuss with your child what action you wish them to take if the school is required to send pupils home early e.g.

  • they should return home even if there is no one there
  • they should go to their grandparents / neighbour or friend’s home
  • they should go to your workplace
  • they should contact you by phone for further directions.

You can of course phone the school if you want to pass a message to your child.

If you have made private arrangements to pick up your son/daughter from school, please inform us in person at reception where you will be asked to sign the register. We must be fully informed of any such actions.

If the school closes early and you are uncertain as to whether it will be open the following day, please either:

  • tune in to Heart FM or Radio Cymru (they will be informed if the school is closed); or
  • phone the school on 01745 582611; or
  • access information on the Denbighshire website, or the school’s website.
